If the wind keeps up, I might just be out of Cairns. I have my red shoes ready.

Is it not too bad right now? Was just reading an article that was saying the winds had already knocked out power to parts, and damaged weather monitoring equipment.

Are you just bunking down at home?

Yes. Two blocks back from the beach but elevated enough to avoid surge.

Looks like it will be good for windsurfing there.
Hold on tight, stay inside but take some photos!

Stay safe. Been through a cat 3 hurricane remains - that was bad enough, can imagine what its going to be like with cat 5.

You know its going to be bad when the emergency services say 'you're on your own'.

G'Day all, been a while. I trust everybody's well.

Good to see some spirited discussions in here along with the odd photo.

Speaking of which, had an awesome Kayak tour round the Bay of Islands over New Years. Only took the S95 and I must say that I'm suitably impressed with that little camera. A few shots from the trip.

Awesome shots!

Everything is OK. The waiting was the worst. 'Luckily' it turned a bit south and we only copped Cat3 winds. Even managed some sleep. Airlines were a bit mean. They were charging double for flights out of town.

I think it was Jetstar. A $800 return flight suddenly turned into a $1600 return flight presumably because they know the people aren't going to say no.

Good to hear you are ok.
A good example of Supply and demand.
We develop computer systems that do this automatically for Hotel reservations, quite possibly they have a similar system for seat prices.. OTOH doubling the price seems a little extreme.

Did you get any photos?
