Hi, My lens won't focus and I need to send it in to canon for service. It was purchased new in September from Adorama so it should still be under warranty. That brings up my first question as so far I have found the receipt but I can't find the warranty card. Am I out of luck on warranty repair? My second question is how do I send stuff to Canon? Do I need to phone them or simply send the stuff or? Finally, I imagine I have to send it to Irvine. I have heard so many horror stories about Canon service I need to know if I get past my first problems is it something I should do? The lens is a 70-200 f2.8 without IS. Help, and thank you for any and all answers. Mike

Call them and tell them your story. I have sent several items to the Newport News facility. When you send in the lens, they will check it out and send you an email with the cost of repair, if any.

I had some issues with my 70-200 plus some other items as well. was directed to send to irvine just like you but instead I asked for the NJ facilities address and they gave me that and the newport one just incase. when I spoke to canon they told me that the warranty card wasn't required but just the receipt atleast and that was all I sent. still haven't heard back from them yet as they haven't received it to confirm but atleast the customer service rep that I spoke with (which I know you can't always trust. hey I work customer service so I can say that) said it would be fine that way.

Don't forget to insure your lens. Thought I would throw in a reminder.

As long as you have the receipt that shows when you bought it, you'll be fine. Just call up the service line, give them the rundown on what it is that's going on, and they'll give you all the info you need on where to send it, etc. It's really rather painless, other than the pain of waiting for beloved gear to return :)

You only need the receipt - and this link to Canon support gives you all the contact details you need:

Hi, First, I want to thank all of you for your help. I actually found the warranty card so I sent in all the right documentation. I phoned the Canon site and got all the directions on how to ship it. I sent it off UPS-insured which is really expensive but I wanted to be safe. My final concern is still to be determined as to what might happen with Canon service but we'll see. Thanks again. Mike
