I had a 1DsII for a while and traded it for a 7D. The 7 is a better tool for what I shoot right now. The AF on it was excellent but the upper ISO quality wasn't so great. If you are happy with the AF on your 5DII then a second identical body would allow you to have less battery investment and the familiarity of the controls and UI will be nice. As far as IQ the 5DII is likely even better than the sII. The 1DsII is a beast and can take abuse but then again I never abuse my gear.

I had a 7D and traded it in for a 1DsII, it is a far better tool for me.

The body is superb and the IQ is in a different league.

I prefer the 1DsII to the 5DII, but if I was already invested in a 5D, I would probably look for a second one. The menu system on the1Ds is old and you may get confused switching between the 2.

I have a 40D and plan to have a FF either 5D 2 or 1Ds 2. 7D is way ahead of 40D.
what do you see 1Ds 2 over 7D. if you think that 1Ds 2 is a good upgrade from 7D, then
it will be much better upgrade from 40D.

I went from a 40D to a 7D, I loved the 40D and I love my 1DsII even more.

The 7D was not for me, the high frame rate and modern features are all very nice. I just could not get mine to perform consistently.

The 1Ds has many advantages over the 7D and so does the 7D have many over the 1Ds. If you want full frame go 1Ds but it also depends on what you want it for.

My main subjects are people but I recently took some action shots see:
