The Canon’s L lenses are manufactured in one of three factories in Japan; Utsunomiya, Fukushima, and Oita. As high quality the L lenses are, sometimes there are variations in the reliability and image quality from one lens to another. I see comments all the time; “hope I get a good copy”. Does anyone know if one factory turns out better lenses than the others? Does the year of manufacture make a difference? Are L lenses like fine wine that depends on the vineyard and year to produce a good batch?
