What is the best wide angle MF lens that can be adapted to EF to work on the 5d? I was checking out the 18mm or 21mm Zeiss but have also heard the olympus 21mm is a sleeper. Any thoughts? I just can't justify the cost of the 21mm Zeiss Distagon.

Thanks!

You might look at the Voigtlander 20mm or if you want really wide, the Samyang 14mm f2.8

+1 on the Rokinon/Samyang/etc. 14mm f2.8. I picked one up a while ago and couldn't be happier with it. There's a sample photo thread for it with a lot of good images.

Speaking of wide angle lens, I find many Zenitar 16mm f2.8 fisheye lens (external link)on eBay. What do people think about that lens?

I own one, I found it rather good till samyang 14F2.8 was produced ... I never use it anymore ! samyang is far better for a bit more money.

It depends on what kinda look are you going for. The Zenitar will gives you the fisheye effect on FF, while the Samyang is just really wide, but not a fisheye.

Can you use filters on the samyang? Any adapters for use with the lee filter system? That would be one thing holding me back from buying the samyang.

Fantastic colors from that lens on the 5D, looks much better than on my Rebel XT. Looks like it would be amazing for portraiture on Full Frame.

Not an interesting shot, but here only to show the ridiculous sharpness of the Nikon 28mm f/2.8 AI-S. This pic was taken at f/2-point-freaking-8.

I think I could honestly crop shots taken with this lens down to about 70mm-equivalent framing and still get a decent 8x10. The only weak spot is very soft extreme corners wide open, which improve dramatically by f/5.6.

Fuji X100 / Sony NEX-7 / Contax G 45mm f/2 / The ghosts of 3 Canon bodies past / A meagre amount of talent
