That is an amazing price--they normally go for $500-$700. I nearly paid as much as that for a copy with a busted AF motor :D

Sweet! That makes me even more excited. My teacher said he had purchased the lens 10 years aho for almost 2000$ after taxes, and I know that he hasn't shot anything Nikon in over 5 years. The other day he found the lens sitting all pretty in the closet and mentioned it to me. Instantly I was interested.

The guy is selling a 70-200 II at around half-price because he's "going to a full-frame camera", and that doesn't even seem slightly suspicious? :D

When my son worked for Canon a couple of years ago I bought a 24-105mm lens for $499 (NEW not refurb) on the employee purchase program and thought it was such a good deal I bought 2 and gave one to my son.

Is $2500 a decent deal for a non-IS 400 2.8?

Maybe not. 200 mm isn't really long enough on a full frame camera.

That's how I got my 70-200 f/4 - a friend switched from a 30D to a 5D and found he never wanted to use it on the 5D.

So he gave it to me. :D

I'm delighted with it!

This has nothing to do with being long enough on a FF. The 70-200 II is an amazing lens that just about any FF user would be proud to have in their lineup--for weddings or otherwise. If someone on FF needs more range, they can buy a 300, 400, or 500 prime.
