Guys..

Just picked up a refurb'd copy of the lens off of the Canon site. I'm still learning but these images seem less than sharp to me. In fact I had better results with my 50mm 1.8. Both shots taken in AV mode / no flash / 2.8 / AI Servo / Center Focus / Continuous Shooting / IS Enabled on Lens

Any thoughts/advice?

EXIF date for individual shot is as follows:
Focal Length - 125mm
Exposure - 1/200

EXIF for group shot is as follows:
Focal Length - 70
Exposure - 1/100

#1 shutter speed... you're going to want to go a little faster than this if you're looking for sharper photos... slight movement of your camera or the subject can blur the image slightly. I know it's possible to shoot at 1/100 effectively, but it is less than easy.
#2 This lens is not super sharp wide open at f/2.8. Try shooting at f/4 and see if you like the results
#3 what was your ISO set at? if it was high, your noise reduction can reduce the sharpness of your image.

Try shooting in broad daylight if you want to do "sharpness tests." Shooting in less than ideal conditions is not really a fair portrayal of what this lens is capable of.

Thank you for your response!

ISO was fairly high...can't remember exactly what it was but in some cases it could have been as high as 3200. I understand stepping down to f/4 but I've read many posts where folks say they're shooting at f/2.8. What's the point of a lens capable of f/2.8 when Im going to have to step down to f/4 to get better results. Your help is certainly appreciated!
