I recently bought the 1D and everything works fine on it except one thing. The camera will not fire my 580EXII in manual mode (Flash and camera both on manual). If I set the Camera to P and set the mode on the flash to E-TTL it exposes just fine. Am I missing something here like a Custom Function that needs to be set?

The flash operates just fine on all settings with my 7D, any suggestions?

Thanks

I traded my 350D for the 1D Classic a little over a year ago, but I haven't had much chance to go out and shoot with it during the time I've had it. The images turn out pretty awesome, but what I don't like... no zooming in the picture viewer, 4.1 MP, cumbersome controls, and not used to its large size. Otherwise, great camera and I've received some rewarding shots out of it:

The jellyfish picture was actually pretty plain white and flat in the original, but after playing with the colors, the vein details really popped and came to life (a latent detail of the image.)

A good article from Canon on why you should use "back button auto focus" instead of shutter release method.

Great article jsdad, I now understand why Canon would incoporate such button.

Glad to help. I just happened to see a similar question about the focus set-up on Fred Miranda's web site this morning. Good knowledgeable info on this site, highly recommended reading as well.:D

So just paid for my 1D Classic, should be here by next week! But quick question, I've been looking over the NR software packages and was wondering how the FredMiranda software works? Does it bridge with my photoshop, or does it install into the 1D itself?

Im in the process of picking up CS5 and hopefully the noise reduction on the CS5 will be plenty. Still contemplating if I should pickup the FM software. Does anyone here have it?
