Hey Jon, thanks for your comments.

For the first picture, what shutter would you suggest? I had intended for the people to look somewhat ghostly so it looks like a flurry of activity. I was focusing on the "25" in the lower left, but I guess I wasn't steady enough.

And yes, I applied the miniature effect on the subway shot.

Thanks for the welcome and feedback!

Oh ok, if you wanted the ghostly look then the shot makes sense and you got the shot you were after. And it did present a lot of busy activity when I looked at it.

Funny thing is if it had been race cars instead of people I would have looked at the image differently and never commented on the motion :) Funny how our minds work sometimes.

Just for fun you could always take a few shots at different speeds and see what you can come up with.

To freeze the motion my best guess would be 250 or higher but I may be way off since I've never taken a shot like that or shot any sports action.

The great thing about digital is you can take all the shots you want and check them on the spot to make sure you get one you like.

Jon...

I know! We tend to be stuck with the associations we're used to making in our own heads. I guess I'm just seeing things anew as a wannabe photographer. I'm trying to look at things with fresh eyes and see whether I can frame or perhaps re-frame what I see to present a story. Specifically with the "Sale" shot, I was hoping to capture some of the frenzy of bargain hunters working to score a deal.

I would really like to try that shot again, but I don't think that's possible. Mall staff cut short my shooting last time!

Here's another picture I took today. I appreciate any comments or critique for this newbie.

There are some beautiful images here and I can't wait for my G12 to be delivered tomorrow. The tilt/shift option is something I am looking forward to playing with.

tcphoto1, you'll love it! I clicked the shutter over 500 times in my first two days! Looking forward to your miniature shots!

The G12 was delivered today and it's a fun little camera. I have narrowed it down to these two from today. Perhaps I'll actually read the manual this weekend.

Speaking of manuals for the G12 David Busch has one coming out on Feb. 22 . I already ordered mine from Amazon . I've bought his camera books for every camera I have owned and highly recommend them to get the most from your camera

My first attempt with miniature effect with the view from my desk at work. I think it'd be better if I could get up higher.

Gonna see how accessible our rooftop is some time next week.

Thanks, I appreciate the comment and will post a little larger file. I am trying to more comfortable with the functions and will widen the effect in future shots.

Thanks, I really like that shot. I am hoping to experiment more with that setting but I do not have as much time to play around as I use to!
