Well I had a chance to take my 300mm out for a test spin on ms basketball.. here are a few from the set that night.
very limited and tight for BBall but works for a few photos at the other side of the court. Some PP but not much on these...C&C if you like.
anybody else shooting 300mm..??? Show and tell...Thanks,

Joe I know what y9u mean about tight on a crop sensor camera. I shot my 300 yesterday and today (14 bball games) But I had the 300 on a MK3. It just right for down court shots for this old coot. I had the 70-200 on the 7d and sometimes the 24-70.

MT, I also had my 7D with the 85 1.8 for all the rest, trying to use two bodies is tough. and when you have steals or break aways I sometime get caught in the middle of grabing the other body to get a shot or something under the basket... or just use my 70-200 on one body and the 300 on the other...
I am finding out that both bodies at sensor crop 1.6 doesnt help much. I have been thinking about the 24-70 in my furture.
Thanks,

Yessir, that is a fact. I had the same experience more than once. During a fast paced boys game, I had to abandon the 300 and just shoot with the 7D/70-200. Doesn't take long to get worn out from switching so much. The refs were kidding me. I said I haven't been running like you guys but I have been lifting weights all day!

The 300 is great for the far end of the court if you are shooting ambient and have two bodies. I like it for getting shots of coaches or a portrait action shot. I'd use it more but I have only one camera body.

Agreed. The 300mm f2.8 is an excellent portrait lens!
