Had a Nikon D300s but lost all my equipment. My friend sold me some lenses from his Canon he replaced. Now I need to get a new body? The 7D is nice but what do you think about this price to buy online, would you buy online vs a camera store (external link)?

Agreed - as you appear to know what you want, research prices and go for the best deal.

Buy a cheap old canon camera from Craigslist. Then go to the Canon Loyalty Program thread on this forum. ~ $1200 with tax and shipping for a refurb.

The Loyalty Program is absolutely the best deal.

The only competition would be the current rebate deal where you'd get a $500 Canon Printer for only $50. (external link)

So, if you need this printer, You'd be comparing $1,200 plus $200 (the refurb camera plus the price of an unused printer on Craigslist) = $1,400 -or- $1,550 for the new camera (external link) and new printer (external link) bought together. That would mean spending an extra $150 for the better warranty and less hassle.

If you can use the printer, it means placing one order with Amazon and getting the stuff tomorrow, versus the trouble of finding a used camera and negotiating with Canon to save $150. (Personally, I'd buy the CLP camera because I'm not worried about warranties, and I don't mind spending the time to get a good deal.)

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.

Why not buy another Nikon?

Info is scarce on the net for Canon's Loyalty Program, but you are in luck on this forum.

check out my the link in my sig for the FAQ thread that was created about the Loyalty Program. it will answer all of your questions if you decide to go that route.

I participated back when they had the 5D II for $1,599 and I've been very happy with my refurb. it had 12 clicks on it when I checked the shutter count with eosinfo software.

all refurbs carry a 90 day warranty.

Thanks. they discontinued the 5D II from the program October 1st, 2010 due to abuse (people were buying them and then reselling for a profit).

when you call, you can ask, but more than likely they will tell you it's not available....unless you are lucky like one POTN member here and got a service rep that apparently didn't read the company memo and processed his request for a 5D II (last month).

the 7D is a sweet camera however, and would love to have one myself if I could afford it.

Was that purchase ever actually confirmed in this forum with some amount of proof the CLP rep mistakenly sold a 5DII? I don't recall seeing any actual proof.

I have an old Canon for the Canon's Loyalty Program if you're interested in purchasing. PM me.

there is nothing wrong with buying online especially from a great seller like amazon, amazon... not 3rd party sellers on amazon. plus amazon doesnt charge tax :). if your looking for a 7d i would buy a broken canon point and shoot off of ebay and use the loyalty program to get a 7d for 1086 plus tax which will vary depending on what city its getting shipped to.
