Hardest I would say weddings and sports. You only got one chance and there's no reshoots.

Easiest IMO is product photography. You can add light, move the light, shoot it today, tomorrow, next week until you hit the deadline. If you don't like the photo, you can reshoot it many times.

Easiest photography is bad photography. Almost anyone can take a bad photo. Hardest... I would say birds/macro or sports take a lot of skill. Many people say weddings, but I guess I am use to weddings and event photography =/

I'm sure this topic is more personal based than anything, cause like with anything else, people excel at certain aspects not to mention is gear dependent and if you know how to use that gear. But I can imagine that events such as weddings are not hard in the sense of taking the picture, but hard in the the amount of stress doing the job, cause it's something that cannot be recreated and you have to be ready to catch certain moments in a slip second.

I'd say the stress levels are unreal for combat photographers. No reshoots and your own safety is on the line as well as people you have become friends with.

I've photographed weddings, insects, birds in flight, products, buildings, sports, landscapes, etc, etc & succeeded in doing them all badly.
They all have their challenges. The hardest part is, shooting them well. I don't think that there is any hardest / easiest genre in photography.
Personally, I find landscapes boring (although nice to look at), mainly because, the landscape will still be there tomorrow. The lighting might be bad, but you can usually return to the same spot day after day to get the shot you want. Landscape photographers will say it is difficult to get a good shot & I agree, it is difficult to get a "good shot". Likewise in every other genre of photography.
The hardest part is getting GOOD at whatever you try.
The Easiest part is failing.

I don't know why I did not realize this until today, but I'll bet the hardest type is groom in flight.

Very difficult to locate, moving very quickly, camera shy, and rare.

Or, I guess the most difficult type is anything I don't know how to do yet. That covers most things.

I think that's more of a transportation issue than a photography issue :P

Astronauts seem to produce some stunning pictures and none of them are professional photographers.

Wedding photographer is probably the easiest, most reliable, next to commercial. I find the chaos and multi-tasking relaxing.

Commercial probably the hardest, with the infinite possibilities of technicalities. . mastering the vision of the client and perhaps seeing your work appreciated or brought to fruition a year or so later. . or never.

I think anyway, all relative really.

Karl, you are the first guy I heard saying weddings are the easiest. Any insight on why?

We can clearly see that everyone has it's opinion on the subject and not everyone agrees on the same ideas.

Have a chat with all the studio photographers who ventured into wedding service, who quickly gave up doing weddings!
