I've been using the canon xs for over a year now and it has been a great camera however it is becoming a little too slow for what I need performance wise so now I'm looking to upgrade to something new. Preferably something with better high iso performance my xs shows noise at anything above 200.
I want to also use the camera for video so the upgrade would need video capabilities which almost all cameras do now. I have a 50mm 1.8 and the kit 18-55mm lens that came with the xs. I have been looking a lot into the 60d and 7d, if I go with the 7d I will be waiting to get more glass because of my budget however if I get the 60d then I can also pickup a lens.
As subject matter I want a good all around camera for portraits and action sports, I want this to be a good investment as I plan on having this camera for a while. Would spending the extra on the 7d be justified in the long run or should I invest in L glass and go with the 60d? thoughts?

If autofocus is a big factor for you, which, since you mention sports, it is, then I'd just pony up for the 7D.

I did XSI to 7d and I would do it a million times over. A T2i would be an option and the you could get a Tamron 17-50 f2.8 for the same money.

If autofocus and image quality are big considerations get the D7000 and don't look back.

I have a XSi (450D) and I just today upgraded to a 7D. I did so using the loyalty program at Canon since my 450D had a busted flash on it. I need more than the 450D, I need faster processing, FPS, higher ISO ceiling and that glorious, glorious 19 point AF sex system. Snagged a 24-70 2.8L to go with it.

The only problem with this is looking at my bank account. Wife? No sweat, she's excited for the results.. but the bank account, it burns deep lol.

edit. A T3i/600D would be a fantastic alternative if you dont want to (or can't) pony up the cash. Also I should add that while a 600D would have been suffice for me, I did NOT want to feel like I needed to upgrade in another 12 months again. I'm marrying into my 7D for years until something else absolutely forces me to upgrade or it breaks.
