Compact Flash Cards--Best Brands

What brand of Flash Cards give the best service?

I doubt anyone has done a recent objective test including all brands, speeds, and sizes of CF cards. After all, who would take the costs for such a thing. Certainly not the major brand vendors.

I think you can find concensus you will not likely go far wrong staying with major brands (Sandisk, Lexar, Transciend, Kingston) that are purchased from a reputable retailer.

These days look for at least a 16GB cards that is at least 400x (so you can have a quick download). I think you start paying significantly more for 600x speeds and larger than 32GB.

Purchase anything from ebay at your own risk.

A lot will agree the Transcend 8-16-32GB 400X cards are a good choice and a fraction of the cost of Sandisk .

Look them up on newegg.com or ca depending on your location .

Transcend and Sandisk.

transcend 400x for me as well - also the 400x comes w/ a lifetime warranty

Been pretty happy with transcend (2 different bodies) 400x and class 10. Stills and video. No issues.

120.000+ shots on Sandisks and not a single problem.

I use both and have not had a single problem with either.

This topic reminds me of topics frowned upon on some of the motorcycle forums I frequent because it's like asking "What kind of motor oil do you recommend and why?"
Everyone's going to have an opinion and there really is no wrong answer!

What might be a more informative thread would be "OK gang, tell me about problems you've had with your memory cards and don't spare the details".

And just for the record - I'm a fan of Lexar CF and Sandisk SDHC and have had no problems with either.

First I went Sandisk and then years later went to Transcend. Never had a problem at all!

Which makes for an even more pointless thread. I can tell you the result now - Sandisk will come out with the most problems. Not because they're the least reliable but because more people own them. It's like asking about car reliability - there will be more people with problems with Ford than with TVR, even though the failure rate of TVRs approached 100%.

What would be interesting is finding out why past users of brands like PNY have stopped using them. A few years ago there were almost as many people evangelising PNY as there are proclaiming the virtues of Transcend today. Did PNY start producing trash? Or have their avid fans changed over to the latest new messiah of memory?

Anyone noticed Transcend seems to be doing away with the lifetime warranty and going with a 2 year now ?
I noticed the warranty changes while looking at the listings on newegg too....hmmmm
