No harm trying, it will fade away quickly if people don't, or stay on the first page if they do.

Got me 1D3 up and running - still trying to learn the camera, though, as I'm coming from a D700 setup. Next lens - 100-400L:

so it seems pretty popular and not a silly idea to me.

I hope I did not hurt your feelings by using the word silly as that was not my intent :-).

As was said, start a thread (can't hurt), and get your idea going! I dont think you need to contact a mod to start a thread ;-)a

Here you go folks that is a great idea to skim through just the pictures.

Post them here in this thread. Let see who all makes it to the front page:)

Because, I'd like to see if the folks here would support it before I go to the MODs with the idea.

It seems a little late to break them apart at this point, as the photos in this thread mean this is not, and never was a discussion only thread. At 4000 plus posts, it's not fair to change the game.

I've nothing against the idea of making two threads for a new body in the future, but this is and has been the "MkIII Image sharing thread" since 2007, so creating your own new one is really not fair to those that have already participated here.

The typical Mod response to seeing a new one would be a merge.

this keeps it all easy to find, and linked to the master list found here;
https://photography-on-the.net …php?p=5047065#post5047065

Besides, in the 7D thread, I still see a lot of posts with replies and discussion, just like all the rest of these threads.

Boy, somehow I missed keeping track of this thread for a week!

Ya know, congrats to those new users here! This is a great camera!

Something that occurs to me -- people can get intimidated by the idea of one of these 1D bodies as well as the 7D with all the customization features. There's a lot to wade through.

Well, my observation is yeah, there's a lot to wade through, but you can take your time, because really once you learn to push the right buttons and fiddle with the menus this camera works well "out of the box". You don't have to mess with Custom Functions unless you know you want to. For me, the first C.Fn I set was right away setting the rear button focusing because I had been using it on my 30D and 5DC all along. That was it -- I got some menu functions copied to My Menu, got the hang of using the Mode/Drive/Metering/FEC button stuff, setting WB -- those are all things that are part of getting used to any camera.

From there, start shooting, and you can study and play with the Custom Functions as you go -- there is no need to not shoot, just take the time to learn and fiddle as you shoot!

One more thing I was pondering was the discussion about UWA lenses. It's interesting that some have modified the EF-S 10-22mm lens to work on the 1D3! I used to have that lens, but unfortunately lent it to someone who lost it without having insured it:(. I guess it's a lesson learned the late way.

But I do have the 16-35 which, on my 5DC is Ultra-Wide. For those who wonder about it on the 1D3, here's something:

Here are a couple shots I quickly grabbed last year of a Corvette parked next to another car. I first used the 24-70 at 24mm and to get the full car in the shot I had to be backed up along the rear of the adjacent car (you can tell from the shadow):

Then I grabbed the 16-35! Set at 16mm I was able to get between the two cars and still get the full body in the image!:

Very well said!

A person shouldn't get or feel "intimidated" by any piece of technical equipment...whether a camera, an i-pad, whatever.

Just because certain cameras may have more features, gizmos, doohickeys, thingamajigs, whatchamacallits, whatever...doesn't mean you HAVE TO use them ALL!! They're there IF you NEED or WANT to use them, and as Tony eluded to, you can take your time learning and using them, if you eventually decide to.

They are there on some cameras because some photographers do need or want them, and do use them.

But that doesn't mean that even a beginner should be "intimadated" or apprehensive about even purchasing such a camera, or even using one.

In fact, it may even help a beginning photographer to become more serious about photography in that while they can just use the "basic" picture taking functions of the camera as long as they want, having more features just may entice them into wanting to learn and use those "extra" features to advance their photography.

Of course this is JMHO.

So yeah, don't let a 1D Mk III or 1D Mk IV (or 1Ds series or any brand equivalents) intimidate you...it's JUST a camera...take some pictures with it.

p.s. Can't wait to get my own 1D Mk III or 1D Mk IV!!

Photographers do it in 1/1,000th of a second...but the memory lasts forever! ;)
