Hi Newbie Question

Please be gentle

430exii and 580exii and 450d.

I have a 430ii with hotshoe ttl cord which I have been using off camera. I have just bought a 580ii and have started played around with using the 430 as a slave whilst the 580 is on camera. I now want to move the 580 off a camera. I have only been using ettl.

Question Will the ttl cord to 580 and slave to 430 work and keep ettl for both.

Also I would like to start to explore manual (a new world) will this set up work to start with or should I explore other options. Like radio triggers. The 430 and 450d don't have pc sockets and I am aware I might have trouble with the optical trigger of the 580 if the 430 slave can't see it.

Any thoughts.

Thanks

Mry ;)

I think it's easy enough to try out for yourself, but yes, it will.

There are plenty of cheap radio triggers where the transmitters are hotshoe mounted and the receivers come with their own hot shoe. So you don't really need any kind of sync port on your camera or flash.

Is it possible to trigger the 580EX with the on-camera flash on the 450D? Or do you need to move to a higher camera to do that?

Canon 30D, 40D, 17-55mm f/2.8, 50mm f/1.8, 430EX, strobist stuff.https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=888751

Only the 7D, 60D, and T3i have this feature.
