Yep, pre-orders + a few select shops across japan got them early. My friend in kyoto picked one up for me and shipped it out via EMS today. I will be getting it in a few days :)

....so beautiful *tears*

Read an early (p)review bummer--1/30 to 1/1000 shutter in aperture priority. Guess this really is a full manual camera by design :)

I'm much more interested in the NEXT model (which apparently may indeed have interchangeable lenses) than I am in this first one. Though if I had a lot of disposable income I'd be all over it.

Can someone explain the logic of this to me? I can't figure out the reasoning behind this.

its to do with the shutter design i believe its built into the lens a leaf type which can only use slower shutter speeds on large apertures but fast flash sync speeds the larger format cameras use i think

But you would need the faster SS if you were shooting wide open in day light to get some isolation....makes no sense to me!

Use ND filters. That's what I do when I'm shooting with my Fuji GF670 wide open.

And the X100 has an ND filter built-in, remember.

I had 30 minutes with the first X100 in the country a couple of days ago.

It's one fine camera.

The lens is quite impressive, with no CA apparent in high-contrast situations like this (100% crop, straight from pre-prod unit)

My one-line verdict based on my 30-minute test-drive: This is a camera I'd want. Now I need to go find the funding for it.

Wrote more about it in my blog, you may want to check it out here: Clicky (external link). :)

Someone pointed out correctly in another forum that my 100% crop may have been one of a stopped down shot hence the lack of CA. Yes, my above 100% crop was done at f/5.6. I have L lenses that have CA stopped down to f/5.6 so I was pretty impressed by the X100.

But just in case... here's a 100% crop of a shot taken at f/2

You'd need to zoom in 200%-400% to see any purple fringing.
