I am very happy that I traded 5d2 and 7d for a 1D MkIV and have tried to shoot an event for my sons today. It is extremely better than 7d especially the click sound.:D

My advice, stop constantly selling gear and learn to take pictures with the gear you have. There is nothing wrong with any of the camera's you've already sold off several times.

That would mean not spending any more money so it's out of the question.

He obviously thinks he has outdone his camera as a photographer and must move on.

I voted for the 5DMIII, because of the type of photography I do. But, my boss has the 1DmIV, and it is incredible. Either way, my 5DMII does everything I want or need it to do.

As for now, my 5DM2 also does everything I want. Will let the dust settle first when the 5DM3 is out.

I think that everyone waiting for a 5D with the 7D AF will be very disappointed. Why would Canon do that as it would decimate the 1DS4 sales. I think the 5D3 will be just like the 5D2, a cheaper, slower more basic version of the 1DS. Why would it be different? But like everyone else, I really have no idea :D

Back to the OPs original question what problems would the 1D4 solve for you? It is an amazing camera but very different to the 5D2. If you didn't like the 7D why would you like the 1D4 as they are quite similar in many ways. Also why wait and wait for something that hasn't even been announced. If there is something that you are missing with the 5D2 that would be fixed with the 1D4 or the mythical 5D3 you would be missing loads of great shots whilst waiting

There will always be periodic upgrades. If you wait for the 5D3 and it is not all you expected will you wait for the 5D4 or the 7D2 or the 1DS4 or the 1D5??

Very lucky to have a lot of nice toys :)
