I was just about to pull the trigger on this lense and they have increased the price $150.00! I would like to know why myself. It doesnt make any sense, why would you drop the price of the new OS and increase the old version that had been at $799 for quite a while? Are they trying to push the OS that bad? All I have to say is this really sucks. Damn it, new I should have bought last week. Sam Ingesoulian

Increasing its price a little bit won't necessarily make people go "wait, its too expensive now. Might as well get the 85L." Daniel

I am in the same boat...my wife is about to start looking for work again, and I was ready to pull the trigger soon, but this is above an 18 percent price increase!

So you end up paying about the same price anyway. But you feel better about it. The rebates have become a non point to me when looking for glass. At times it is possible to pay more when getting a rebate, as List price is higher than the rebate will lower it.
