Does anyone have news about Japan? We have relatives there at the air force base.
We're in Hawaii - and so far we're expecting a 6' tsunami.

We'll see. We're hoping for the best, so maybe the tsunami model prediction is wrong.

I've heard that most of the military bases in Japan have suffered minor damages. Thank God!

Hopefully, everyone else will be ok too.

Hawaii was supposed to have a tsunami last year around 13 months ago that was supposed to be the same size as the one they're predicting now (6'). It was about 8" high. Supposedly, they've updated their prediction models with the last data, but hopefully they're wrong again, and it'll be minor for all.

Really?

People are dying man, whether stuff gets made is irrelevant. :(

It is not irrelevant, this is about Canon (Canon Digital Photography Forum) and I wanna know how this will affect my "made in Japan" goods.

sure I care about the people but this site is about Canon, not people in Japan. So it is relevant.

Wait at least until you know what impact this has to the people..

Yeah, it makes me sick to watch the live feed from over here. I hope everyone in Japan is safe and they escape with minimum suffering.

The images they are showing on NHK are just surreal.

Just got news from Guam.

They were supposed to get their tsunami an hour ago. They have yet to see anything. The cycles of this wave were approximately 20-30 minutes long. So they went through about 2 cycles already...Good news for them.

Guam is pretty tsunami proof though. They've got a big barrier reef, and they have a lot of depth underwater for that type of island, so waves don't build up there very well.

might be tacky to be talking about camera production considering the circumstances but,

"Canon says camera production has not been affected by the Japanese earthquake though press reports suggest that its factories were damaged in the disaster.
Hirotomo Fujimori, a Tokyo-based spokesman for Canon based in Tokyo, told news agency Bloomberg that the world's biggest camera manufacturer 'didn't suffer damage to plants that would halt output'...."

found via http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk …an_quake_news_306229.html (external link)

best wishes to all of those affected!

Hi - not a for sale, but thought I should get the news out -

Huge tsunami. Turn on the news, and keep them in your prayers..

Certainly disturbing, but this definitely doesn't belong here. You know the rules...

News this big, people are much more likely to see it elsewhere

And the size of that tsunami is just immense, I still can't believe some of the footage :s
Just see this, the water rises and rises, you can see it already swamping the first floor of that building, and it quickly drowns the second. Just incredible amounts of water. Whole buildings lifted and dragged away...
