Shot this last year at History Alive (which incidentally is coming up again this Queen's Birthday Weekend), and it seemed somewhat appropriate:

Evening all. A Canon rep came to our photoclub tutorial today and gave a little talk + presentation. Found out a few interesting things that are apparently going to happen.. thought I might share :)

1. Killed rumors of a 5D mk3 coming out this year. He said that we wouldn't see one until at least the 1Ds mk4 had come out... and he'd heard nothing on that yet either.
2. Said a 24-70 refresh is long overdue.. but that it wouldn't get IS (as some people in the rumor forums are lusting for).

And the more important ones..

3. In 2-3 weeks, Canon is going to do a pricing restructure to bring prices of Australian stock down to compete with grey imports (lol, everyone clapped at this point). You'd pay maybe 30-50 dollars more than the imported versions.

4. To go with that, they are also going to kill the "international warranty" in Australia. Recent changes to the law have meant that they don't have to provide the international warranty... It combines with the price restructure to essentially force us to buy Australian stock. We asked about lenses that we currently have (I think my 70-200 is a grey import...) but he said they weren't any different. Those of us with a lot of grey L series glass were rather annoyed....

Very nice Dave but I think this might be more appropriate...

Haha, people that thought the 5DIII would be soon are crazy! They current is only a few years old, and there's not exactly too much to upgrade without going to a 1 series...Basically, why hurt your sales?

Exactly, lol. Apparently the 5D mk2 killed a lot of 1Ds mk3 sales, so they don't want to have a repeat of the same thing.

Awesome Minty! Great news for new lens purchases if that pricing model takes effect though shame on the grey import purchases...

Interesting but I wouldn't take 1 and 2 as gospel as Canon traditionally play their cards very close to their chests with regard to new releases and the reps often don't hear about new releases until an hour or two (if that) before the press releases go out.

Australian Trolls have once more struck hot and heavy. Do not attempt to revive your discussion group until all, every single one, of you who participate are willing to abide by POTN rules, in their entirety and without argument. If you are not prepared to abide by Moderator instructions regarding the rules, then you might as well leave voluntarily, because you can expect that if you don't, you will be shown the door. Expect any revival attempts to be summarily closed at the first sign any participant has violated any of these rules.
