I thought i should sing my praises for the wonderful service i received form Gentec Intl./ Sigma Service Canada.
I just recently acquired a used copy of the 70-200 HSM II APO Macro 2.8, after some further testing , i found the lens to be back focusing, it was not a main concern @ purchase since the price was right & i confirmed the 8.5 years left on the siggy 10 warranty was good to go with the lens , this in mind i sent it to Gentec Canada.
The lens was shipped out overnight /insured on Wed. March 9 with a plea for a fast turnaround, i promptly received a call back yesterday morning ( Thurs. March 10) from the service dept. advising me that the lens had some internal optic fault & that they were going to replace it with a spanking new one that should arrive at my door today, to say i as shocked after reading several horror stories here & else where would be a slight understatement, i felt like i won the lottery .
I`m pleased to tell you that the lens arrived this morning as promised nice & minty, and from all appearances so far seems to be working very well, i would like to thank the fine folks @ Gentec Intl. for the promt & exceptional service provided, needless to say they have won my confidence in this day & age when it`s rare to find this level of aftermarket service much less hear of it.
KUDOS Sigma Canada.

It's good to hear a happy ending story here.

Out of curiosity, did they charge you $50? Last time I sent in a lens for warranty work they said they charge $50 for any service.

Nope , the only cost to me was shipping it there.

Wow NICE! Definitely Kudos to Sigma/Gentec for a brand new refurb!!

Not like my story with Canon and my T2i...
Had a display problem, sent to Canon.
One month later, they returned the camera and the problem is still there.
Sent back to them after I get confirmation and they are like "huh? why'd you sent back"
On top of this, they never updated me on what's going on.

Glad to hear that , congrats :)

Do you know if they honor the warranty on the lenses bought from the US ? because i'll be pulling the trigger soon on the 17-50 f/2.8 from B&H !

I think the US warranty is only 1 year, but if you buy from a Canadian source it's 10 years.

As I mentioned above, I got charged $50. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I bought my 50mm used from the states. But they did acknowledge that it was still in its warranty period.

Ah well.

My understanding is if bought in the US it carries a 1 year international & 5 yrs in the USA, for whatever reason the EX line is offered a 10 yr bought from a authorized dealer in Canada.

Talked to Gentec this morning. If you buy in the US you get one year of warranty in Canada but there is a 50 dollar surcharge.

I purchased a brand new Sigma 50-150 which front focused quite badly. At a cost of $50 I sent it express to get it back as soon as possible, three weeks later I contacted them and they had not even looked at it???I was told it would be looked at by the end of the week.If it is properly fixed I will be satisfied, but the retailer only gave me 10 days to decide if I wanted to keep the lens but agreed to extend that until I get it back.I was not expecting the process to take over a month, especially with the express shipping.Hope it all works out,but right now I am not feeling good about there service:o

I recently purchased a new Sigma 150-500 and was having inconsistant focusing problems with the lens. Sent it to Sigma NY repair for inspection and calibration as they recommended. Received it back yesterday, just shy of two weeks turn around time. Managed a few test shots last night and things appear to be sorted out. Overall, I think they did a decent job and deserve a thumbs up...

I have a Sigma 50mm with Gentec now that was front focussing straight out of the box. Hopefully it will be a quick turn around in my case as well..

This thread makes me much more comfortable dropping $600 on the sigma 50, knowing that i will probably have to send it in. For those who sent theirs in for front focusing issues, post back and let us know if Gentec fixed the problem.

I am now approaching 5 weeks and still no lens.My patients is starting to wear, this is a crappy way to treat a customer that just spent $850 on one of there lenses just 6 weeks ago.If it ever comes back and is not focusing properly this will be the last Sigma product I will ever buy.
