Does anybody know a reason NOT to enable C.Fn III-7 (AF point area expansion)?

My understanding is that when shooting with a thin DoF, it becomes more likely that the camera will focus on something unintended that's closer, eg. if you put the square on an eye, an expansion point might focus on the adjacent nose instead.

I only wish Canon would have a direct control for this, or allow re-mapping of another button. Nigel

There's a way to set up the camera so that when you press the MENU button it takes you directly to MY MENU. So if MIRROR UP is the only item in MY MENU then by pressing MENU you now have "direct control" over the Mirror Up function.

I'm really starting to love this camera more and more. :)

Other than expansion points ON (work only in AI Servo) and moving focusing to the AF button, I have everything else turned OFF. RAW only

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Don't remember the CF #s, but ...

- AF point area expansion
- Focus with the AF button
- Focus point selection on the joystick
- Raw only

---
My Menu:

- Format
- Mirror lockup
- Custom WB

430exII what do I need to shoot wirelessly? Or should I trade up to a 580.

Depends on what "wirelessly" means to you.

I'm just discovering that with the changing of RAW settings that I am giving up quality in my images in order to save room on my card?
RAW (21 Megapixels) sRAW1 (10 megapixels) sRAW2 (5 megapixels)

Can someone give me guidance on this? Shouldn't I just leave it at RAW and buy extra flash cards?

Yes, leave it on RAW and just buy extra flash cards.

Some people will argue that the sRAW1 and sRAW2 look so similar to standard RAW that it's not worth the extra storage space.

I appreciate your response.

sRAW1 & sRAW2 may look similar, however, if I am going to enlarge my image say to 16 X 20, shouldn't I want all of those megapixels?

Now if I want to select mirror lockup, for tripod use, it is just two presses away - brilliant. I only wish Canon would have a direct control for this,

I just hit "Live View" when I need the mirror locked up. I suppose it uses a little more battery since it activates the display on the back. Other than that, doesn't it do the same thing?

This is great! My 5D2 just arrived yesterday and its former owner zeroed out of his settings!

One critical question for me is the RAW, sRAW1 and sRAW2. I see the settings reduce file size. Is there any reason to continue using the largest file size if the biggest print I'd ever make would be an 8 X 10 and probably reduced to an even smaller file size than sRAW2 prior to printing?

Thanks for starting this thread. Appreciate it.

dave
