Well, a buddy of mine and I were talking about the differences between the big "Pro" DLSRs and P&Ss and camera phones. I don't know how we got on the topic really, so I did a trial shoot.

In my opinion, this is as real world as it gets. All handheld, all inside, all with a tough subject, all with horrible lighting. Its just interesting to see.

I wont tell you which is which, so guess :D

I just stuck the s95 on Auto, the 5d was on AV @ f4 because on auto it wanted to shoot 1.4 and that would get really obvious because of the bokeh which is which. I know the s95 was shot at f2, but thats because it was at 28mm.

I suppose a better test would be the 5d and s95 at f5.6 @ 50mm. My computer with my photoshop is at 5% battery, so I wasn't able to do more tests.

It was just a fun thing to look at. Im not trying to prove anything, or go scientific. I thought some of you guys might be slightly interested in seeing the differences.

If you think this is stupid and a waste of time, I'm sorry for wasting your time :D

I wanted to do all of them in FULL AUTO mode, but like I said, the 5d wanted to shoot @ 1.4, and that wouldn't be close to fair for the amount of bokeh etc. So anyways, here it is

No editing, all jpg, no color correction. Just resize!

Since all three shots are not taken with the same settings (or as close as possible), I really don't see the point.

A 5D can produce horrible images and even the worst piece of apple crap is in theory capable of producing great images. There are some tell tale signs (choice of lens for the 5D being one) and as such it's not a fair comparison.

It would be more interesting to see all three shots done as close to exactly the same, as possible.

I think it is a valid comparison as all the cameras were making their own decisions except the 5D which wanted to make a decision that the other 2 could not possibly match so it was held back to enable the comparison.

At the end of the day, and viewing the pics on reduced resolution forum standard, I think there is a clear winner. I will eat my pants if the 2nd shot is not the 5D.

P&S and phone cameras have their place but if you want to take pictures not snapshots or records then you need a camera where you control everything. I think that given the fact you could control everything and hence had the opportunity to control the white balance on the 5D you could have done better ;)

Keep in mind that the s95 has an f2.0 lens at the wide end, and the 2nd shot is shot at a much closer perspective for some reason. Is it possible that there was an attempt to create a narrower DOF by getting closer to the subject? ;)

So maybe iphone, s95 and 5D2?

The S9x bodies are very, very good point and shoots, btw...

Obviously the OP is trying to say the Iphone beats a 5Dmk2!

Just a fun exercise. No need to take it seriously.
