Sigma 50mm f1.4 - Rate your experience

Considering the same thing too, I love my ef but my 5D is sending a friend request to the lux

Best lens i own for colors and bokeh, and its sharp at any f-stop. However i would not rate the AF too high, but i have learned to live it. The images it produces when i get the focus right is awesome. More punch then my L-lenses..

perfect on my 40d and 5dc. tried the canon version. soft at 1.4

Love it, the AF can be a little strange on some subjects in some situations...but really, its a good lens, i love mine a lot and i have used it a ton since getting it back in November...

My copy was perfect out of the box

Not the lens... occlusion is from the mirror box of your camera. 85L and 50L show the same effect.

FWIW, I love mine. Easily the best lens for the money in my kit.

Bought a new copy, sent it in to be calibrated. Perfect.

IMO, it's the best auto-focus 50 for Canon. (I've shot a lot of 50s)

If you don't need auto-focus check Gasrocks gear list. There are literally loads out there that are desirable.

1st copy few years ago was way off..
2nd copy last year was good
3rd copy got last month is good..Plus the new finish makes it even nicer then my last copy.

Mine is sitting at the local FedEx, I can pick it up in 2 & 1/2 hours, can not wait to try it out.

Its truly unfortunate that this backwards engineered lens isn't a rock solid performer in all of its copies.

I had a copy (I've tested too many to even recall) that seemed to work well indoors in my home. After testing it extensively it seemed relatively "good". Brought it out to shoot a very important "family reunion" (aging relatives are not getting any younger). That Sigmadud was dreadful as I varied the distance and I had ALOT of OOF shots. From that day forward I am disgusted with sigma. Honestly I doubt I'd ever buy a sigma but I am willing to try for humour sake.... maybe a super zoom

When i finish purchasing other studio lighting gear I will start to look into the 50L once again. At least if you get a good copy its rock solid regardless of lighting condition. Even if you have a Shiftyfifty"L" you can compensate because its predictable.

Great lens, rock solid performance straight out of the box. No regrets.

Picked up my lens this morning from FedEx. It is a brand new copy with new finish. I tested it and it seems to be focusing correctly, I am going out this weekend and will put it through some more tests.

Absolutely love it. Stays on my 5d2 95% of the time.
I think it's relatively easy to miss focus shooting at 1.4. I know my OOF shots are due to user error.

Bought it used on here, perfectly sharp with no MA.

Great lens, leaves me with no desire to upgrade to the 50L
