I had someone ask if I wanted to buy their 70-200mm for $1500 today. What do you think an average asking price is for this lens? Seems quite low to me.

I think you're mistaken. $1500 would buy you the Mk I version, not the Mk II version.

He said it is a Canon 70-200mm F/2.8L II and wants to sell it for $1500. He used it for shooting F1 or something like that and found that he is not allowed to sell any of the photos due to restrictions.

I will see him at work on Monday. He is working for an outside agency that is currently stationed at our plant for a very large project we are doing. I am going to see how serious he is. Heck, for the right price I would buy it, just to resell it.

I am going to see how serious he is Monday and offer him up $1500 cash. If he bites I may hold onto the lens long enough to have fun with it and then sell it here.

Yeah, you should be able to get at least $1650-$1700 for it here. In fact, if you want, I'll give you that for it. Let me know.

When I talked to him yesterday I asked him if the hood screws on or if their is a button to lock it in place. The answer told it all. I will say, its a sweet lens. Heavy though. I will stick to my 400L for now.

Does the mkII have a button lock system for the hood?

Scroll down this page and look at the picture of the lens below the one of the case and click on the word 'rotated' underneath it. You will see the button release.
