Oh, and to Steve (of Cornubia) - loved the swan shot. I think having so much head space, and having the swan swimming out of the frame really conveys a great mood and tells a story. Well done.

Garry............... May you pack two days of livin' into every day you're given.

Great challenge everyone. And thanks for the detailed critiques, Jason C. That's a lot of extra effort!

Congrats to Chris, Allen and Randall. Jason, I hemmed and hawed about whether or not to crop my photos but in the end, I didn't want to come close to winning so I left it alone, LOL. Too busy right now to host a challenge and when I saw the other entries, I knew it didn't matter if I cropped it or not :)

My fave was Jon-Wiz's spider web!

Life is hard...but I just take it one photograph at a time.

Yeah I liked to though it doesn't follow the rule of thirds. That to is closer to the rule of 4/5ths horizontally anyway.

How ya feel'n Maureen? Those ribs getting better?

Thank you. I endured a freezing couple of hours following a couple of swans round a lake in order to get the shot I wanted. I think the framing is just a bit off - nothing a little cropping couldn't fix.

Congrats to the winners. Some really good work from other entrants, too.

Jason C,

Thanks for taking the time to give your opinion on all the entries as well as choosing a great topic. To answer your question about my photo it was not cropped at all just resized. I added noise to it and the focus was set to his nose or atleast I tried to get it there. I shot it with my 40D and a Canon 24-70mm. Oh, this was the first challenge I ever won so I'm pretty excited! I'll get the next challenge up ASAP.

Challenge is up!!

Still mighty painful, Allen. I was told 6-8 weeks of soreness is expected but I didn't realize how much broken ribs hurt!

Every time ya breath it re-aggravates I would imagine. I hope you're feeling much better soon.

Breathing is the least of my worries; I had a bad cough when the break occurred and this week, the allergy season kicked in. I had about 3 sneezing attacks yesterday and felt like someone put a spear thru my chest.

Also wanted to add a couple of quotes from some of the greatest and some things to think about:
"When subject matter is forced to fit into preconceived patterns, there can be no freshness of vision. Following rules of composition can only lead to a tedious repetition of pictorial cliches." - Edward Weston

"There are no rules and regulations for perfect composition. If there were we would be able to put all the information into a computer and would come out with a masterpiece. We know that's impossible. You have to compose by the seat of your pants." - Arnold Newman

"There are no rules for good photographs, there are only good photographs." - Ansel Adams
