Anyone using a 50L with a UZ date code? Any noticeable difference in performance (sharpness, focusing) compared to the previous productions? I'm getting this lens 3 weeks from now and i just called the store and confirmed that they have UZ codes.

I just want to make sure that i get a quality copy to avoid hassle. :)

you may end up with a UZ date code and it still have issues focusing. I don't think they changed anything as far as fixing any problems (at least nothing's been reported).

for instance, my lens was a UY date code, and right out of the box it was front-focusing. I sent it to Canon and they sent it back to me repaired. I'd rather send it in and get it fixed than to try and exchange it for another lense that may be worse.

here's my before and after shot when I received my lens back from Canon.

How are you liking those Einsteins? I had white lightnings previously and the light was good but I hated the modifier mount.

Forced me to switch to elinchrom (Not that I'm unhappy about this)

this is my first strobe, so not sure whether or not white lightnings or alien bees are similar.

the reflector goes on with a lever on the einstein that opens and closes fingers that catch the reflector. it's not particularly snug, it still moves, but it's not going anywhere.

I've only had the Einstein for a couple days, and today was the first time I really got to take it out of the box and mess with it. So far, it's pretty nice! goes from 640 down to 2.5 watt/sec.

Just read from another forum (35L VS 50L) that this lens is a FAIL. I do not own this lens but I'm quite annoyed by the strong word given. Seriously, i like the photos posted here. Given a bad?? reputation, this lens seems to defy negative comments.

The 50L is a wild mistress...she can make you laugh; she can make you cry. But if you can tame her, you'll love her forever.

All this negative talk about the 50L's reputation was the reason I waited so long to purchase the lens. I'm so happy I finally went out and purchased the lens, it's FABULOUS! I love the look the lens provides and I have no problem using it wide open. As a matter of fact this pic I just took was wide open.
