Hey all,

Sent a somewhat recent member funds for a 15-85mm lens that he was selling with pictures and an average price. I accidentally sent gift paypal as I usually send regular but had a brain fart and sent it that way. So anyway, guy says it's been shipped today UPS Express and with my email as reference. Then I get this PM:

Okay...this is screwed up. I recieved an permanent account limitation. Please redeem your money. Call the paypal help center, since my account is limited, it means that my credit card is stuck. Thus, I can't send you back your money. My account got limited because I bought two eBay items at the same time. =.= I've been on and off the phone with them (paypal) for the last two ours. Do you have any advice? I have asked them to return the money to you, so you should receive a full refund.
Thanks,
John P.

So typical scam, huh? Any advice?

It may not be. I am having a problem trying to understand the PM sent to you, but to me it's clearly the seller's problem. If you sent money and the the seller can't get it because their account is limited, that's not your concern.

Recently, I sold an item and the buyer was having PayPal problems similar to what you've described. He wasn't able to get it resolved so he sent me money through PopMoney. The PM you got does have some merit, but like I said, if you made your payment, seems like to me your role in this is done.

Tom

I guess all you can do at this point is call Paypal security center and see what they tell you.

He said he shipped it and then he says he wants to give you the money back?

Did he mention anything about the gear he allegedly shipped?

At least your seller is proactively contacting you and trying to get the mess straightened out. This is a good thing!

At this point, it appears that your lens has shipped, the seller can't get the funds, and you might get the payment refunded.

Hopefully you can work out an alternative payment method.

Good luck to both of you.

Something doesn't add up. First he says it's sent. Then says to redeem money from paypal.

Why would he suggest that after the item is sent ?

I would definitely keep watching the tracking number to see that it is an item in transit, and not a label printed, notified of shipment pickup, etc.

Dont pay him twice for sure, make sure you have your funds back first and NOT pending..

HAVE THAT MEMBER POST HERE IN THIS THREAD WITH HIS EXPLANATION

He probably printed UPS label, but didn't give the package to UPS

Something not right. He claims he shipped it then has a Paypal problem.
Has only joined a few days ago and most of his post if not all are in the wtb section.
PMing people about items in and not in his gear list.

Just be patient and collect as much info on the situation as possible. Mistakes happens. It takes time to sort issues out.

On a side note:
Try to deal with members who have seller feedback and didn't just become a member... especially members with a wild screen name who's entire post count comes from responding to WTB ads as 70ss already mentioned.

I know, desire got the best of me. I'm not internet stupid, I made a mistake. Maybe it'll work out. He has other decent posts on other forums.

We'll see, I haven't judged yet. =)
