Good Point...

Why is that not attached to the lens foot?

To tell you the truth I don't know. I had my 24-105 attached to it and switched to take a few pics with the 70-200 and did not take off the tripod mount off the body.

It's not like he has a 600mm f/4 on there, I'm sure it'd take more than 1.5kg to rip the lens mount off. Although it would give better balance, I'm guessing he was probably switching between lenses and there's no QR plate on the 70-200mm's tripod foot.

You do realise your gripped 7D and 1Ds only weigh about 200 grams less than the 70-200mm f/2.8, and the gripped 50D about 100 grams less than them? And that's the weight without batteries, chuck some in and add something like a flash and you're putting even more stress on the lens mount than laselects06, as would pushing down slightly on the body.

Just recieved my 1D MKII. I'm so impressed. I purchased it from KEH in BGN condition, only 115k on the shutter. Also picked up a PRISTINE 50mm f/1.8 MKI. I can't find a mark on the lens.

You're going to love it! I don't think I could go back to using a non-1D body anymore. It just spoiled me. They're amazing cameras.

Looks like you got quite the bargain... Was always a little iffy about BGN, but that looks great...

I honestly don't know how hard it is on the actual camera however the big difference is going to be where the pressure is on the camera. The weight of the camera would have most of the pressure going vertically on the camera mount. The length of the lens and the weight means it's going to pull away from the camera. I would expect that the vertical pressure would be less of a concern then the other.
