0.65m rail I use is capable of sliding for 3-6 seconds, more than enough for one shot. However, the one I am using is ball bearing slider and it's completely smooth from start to finish.

.5m is best for shoulder but I do not recommend it for shoulder mounting.

501 (external link) vs 701 (external link). 701 is smaller.

i would also guess .75m but i don't think using a glidetrack as a shoulder rig is a good idea.

I shoot 70-200mm f/2.8 w/ 7D on 501hdv and 5D with 24mm, 50mm, or 85mm on 701hdv. The weight is well balanced on the 701hdv

Thank you for your inputs guys. I'm going with the ZazaSlider DIY to save $$$. Is it a good idea to get both Manfrotto 562B-1 Fluid Video Aluminum Monopod with Plate and Manfrotto 701hdv?
@Trey, Can the 701hdv handle the 70-200mm f/2.8?

I have the .75mm glidetrack shooter. I find it sufficient for slides. Be warned though, when using it as a shoulder mount it's extremely front heavy since you don't have a way to balance the weight. I can only shoot with it shoulder mounted for 5-6 minutes before finding myself fatigued and I consider myself to be in pretty good shape.
