I took this quick snapshot of Gertrude laying on my bed, you can't tell but there is pillows all around her because she is blind and a couple of months ago she walked off the bed onto the hardwood floor (she forgot where she was) so now she has a baracade to protect her from the fall. Miss Gertrude is also a diabetic and has to take insulin twice daily.

How old is your Great Dane? Is she blind due to old age?

Nice shot -- my Cleo is almost 10 1/2 -- old for a Dane. She went blind a year ago due to glaucoma.

Poor Cleo, Gertrude has been blind a couple of years I think it started due to diabetes. 10 1/2 is very very old for a Dane you must be doing Cleo good. I put Gertrude outside yesterday and did not check on her right away usually she stays near the patio but I found her across the yard doing her heavy walking....its like she is feeling with her front legs to see where she is, so I had to go rescue her, no more alone time outside for her.

Our neighbors just took their diabetic schnauzer in for catarac surgery 5 days ago .. and he can see again. When he was first diagnosed with diabetes, he went blind within a month or two. (I didn't know it could happen so fast). .. anyway, they are thrilled that he can see again. .. Ever the optomist, I'm just hoping that this 'happy ending' story may provide you with some hope for your little gal.
Nice pix of your cute girl. :o)

Boy thats encouraging if I knew when she was younger I would have had it done. She is 13 1/2 right now so she is at the end of her lifespan actually she is the oldest BT I have ever owned and she is so tough with her high diabetes. Thanks for the info....I would love to see her see again.
