Good to know. I love using my 7D for HDR, but it's definitely limited.

I don't even think this is a valid comparison. These cameras are in two completely different price leagues. Of course the 1ds is better in multiple ways already mentioned.

was thinnking this as well. if it's strictly for studio shooting, the 5d2 should do (almost) as well as the 1ds3

Well lit in a studio... for print use in a magzine/book - if you know what you're doing you aint gonna see a difference. Don't believe the hype : )

I wouldn't even consider a crop sensor is you are looking for industry standard images. I have the 7D and a 5DII. The 7D is noisy at mid ISO's, imo. Crop sensors suffer from diffraction sooner than a FF. Not sure if it's the AA filter on the 7D, but images come out soft/softer OOC. Sharpening in post is not the same as resolving detail at the source. If wide angle is important there is far less to choose from on a crop than a FF in top end glass or just not available at the UW end.

So, for industry standard I would choose a MF but we are talking Canon and what is available. 5DII or 1DsIII. IQ is probably a wash so, you are paying for a more rugged build, weather proofing and a better AF system.

Since you plan on shooting in a studio, I don't think any of those features add anything. Since you don't plan on printing larger than 8 x 10, even a 5D would be a good choice, imo. Images come out of that camera closer to ready for print than any of the other cameras mentioned. Shoot tethered and the back LCD becomes irrelevant.

Bohdan - I may be, and probably am, completely wrong.

Given that some professional fashion photographers shoot with crop camera's for major fashion publications... then yep he'll be fine to use the 7D to shoot a lookbook : )
