Take the filter or filters you got from maxsaver.net to your local camera store (i.e. Vistek), somebody can tell you they're real or fake. I did this, so I am continuing shopping with maxsaver.net.

How were they able to do this?

One other question: The B+W 72mm Kaesemann MRC Cpl filter is listed on Maxsaver.net as "special order". Does anyone know if this means they are backordered or if they are not a regular stock item?

Thank you for your help.

Has anyone had any experience with this situation? Thanks.

I've bought several MRC F-Pro B+W filters from Maxsaver and the glass is optically flawless as far as I can tell. The rings however are made of alloy and not brass. I assume that accounts for a large portion of the price difference between Maxsaver and B&H.

They stock both, alloy and brass version.

Indeed, my filters purchased through Maxsaver are brass as well.

Wanted to thank everyone on this forum for recommending Maxsaver.net I just submitted an order for the B+W KSM MRC CPL 77mm for my 24-70L. I have never used a CPL before, but I have seen a lot of photos of the filter and like what it adds to an image. I have it paired up with a Canon 7D, hopefully I won't need to use the CPL feature in LR3 anymore.

As the OP, I just wanted to get the group's feeling on MaxSaver since their filter prices are comparatively low. I appreciate all of the feedback. Unfortunately, MaxSaver made my purchasing decision for me since that do not have the size of the CLP filter I want & have no idea when it will be in stock. Thanks again.

There is a CPL feature in LR3?

Brass is, by absolute definition, an alloy (external link).

I really can't imagine where these 'alloy-vs-non' comparisons are coming from.
There are many alloys to be had, and they're not just found in filter rings.
They're all around your everyday lives. Brass is but one of the alloys.

Contemplated maxsaver for a while, but succumbed to the adage that " if Something is too good to be true, it probably is"
Get all my filters (b&w, rodenstock, heliopan) from Adorama, BHPhoto or Amazon. And they all are made of brass.

OK Craig, I was just using the term on the Maxsaver page.

Aluminum then.

I have been buying from them for years and never once have I had a problem. They sell top notch filters at great prices. I have even emailed them and they have always answered.

I also believe when they say it's a special order they do not have them in stock. I bought the same filter you are looking at and it's the best I have ever used.
