I purchased this lens about 3 years ago and it has been rarely used. WhenI was cleaning the lens today, I noticed that as I grasped it, that the front part (the white band with "ultrasonic" printed in red immediately forward of the manual focusing ring) has a little play and "rocks" slightly from side to side - and a slight gap is apparent when flexed by my hand. I hesitate to ask, but is this normal? If not, what would you recommend?

Thank you,

Ollie.

Is it just the part in front of the focus ring, or is it the whole part including the focus ring? I had the whole part come loose and had to get it fixed. Turned out to be some loose screws. Easy to fix though.

Well ... now I look even closer, the play appears to be in the seams directly behind - and in front of the focus ring - but a little more pronounced in the section in front.

How should it be examined and fixed?

Thank you once again for your help,

Ollie.

I took it to a local repair shop and they fixed it up for me. If you don't have one near you, you'll have to send it in to canon to get it fixed.

Just came across this thread and I'm having the same problem. Do you remember how much the repair shop charged you to fix it? Thx.

I can't remember the exact amount, but it was between $100 and $150. Closer to $100 though I think.
