So I know some are going to be all down on the 75-300 but hey it's what I can afford right now. Plus I think I got a good deal. So questions are.
1. What is the difference between the EF and EF-S? This one is EF
2. What is the on switch for IS? O or I, Sorry, Got it on CL with no destructions.
3. How do I know what lens I got? I've seen on ebay and other places different #s of glass and blades with what seems like the same pics. So I'm a bit confused on what one I might have gotten.
I've seen some of the non-IS going for around 100 bucks and most of the IS for around 200 so for the $100 I got this one for I think I got a great price. This will have to do until I can come up with the cash for a L series. Thanks in advance!

If you can afford the 75-300, I'm sure you can afford the 55-250, which is a much better lens ;)

edit: misread your post, thought you were asking whether or not to get it. didn't realise you already got it.

O or I turns the image stabaliser on or off,
if youve got the is o/i switch its stabalised
ef and ef-s are different mounts on canon cameras. you can use an efs and an ef lens on a camera equiped with an ef-s mount, you cannot use an ef-s lens on a camera with an ef mount.
the 70-300 IS lens is an ef lens.

there are 3 types of people in this world, those that can count and those that can't

1. What is the difference between the EF and EF-S? This one is EF

EF-S lenses can only be used on cameras with crop sensors like XXDs, 7Ds, Rebels
EF lenses can be used on all cameras

3. How do I know what lens I got?

Post a picture of it and someone will tell you

Did you buy a 75-300 or did you buy a 70-300? I dont think canon makes a 75-300 with IS.

It did. It was the first of the 75-300s and the first SLR lens with IS. Of the 75-300s, it's considered the best, and may possibly be worth owning.

Good to know, the non IS version is terrible.

Well I had read reviews about both non and IS and it seemed that the IS was a little better, so I'm glad I got it. so far I'm liking it. This pic was cropped with the heli just to show the detail. He was pretty far away. Cropping it makes it seem real close, but I'd guess maybe about half a mile away. So I know the O and I are for the IS. My question is the O for on and I for off? Or is the I for IS? Anyhow, hope this clears up some things. Oh, and thanks for all those that have already posted.

Cool thanks! Here are some pics just for reference of others if they are considering purchasing.
First is with the 18-135 set at 18. Next three with the 75-300. Notice the white van about the middle of the first pic to the right it's the same guard shack behind the close up car shot. The blue car in the gully in front of the building is the same as the one the girl is running past, and hopefully you can spot the green topped building in both pics. ;)

I think you got one hell of a deal for only $100. Lots of people dislike the the regular 75-300 but few have any real knowledge about the 75-300 IS. Everything I have read says the 75-300 IS is a way better lens and your photos seem to confirm that for me.

There never was an EF-S version of the 75-300, only EF. Here is a good resource for info on Canon lenses: http://www.canon.com …a/lens/ef/ultra_wide.html (external link)

EDIT: Including the 75-300 IS, there are SEVEN versions of the EF 75-300mm .

Keh.com is a good reference for used prices. They list a few 75-300 IS's for about $300+

I wouldn't sell my 75-300 IS for 300, there is nothing close to that price to match this lens.
Check my site, most of the nature photos are taken with this lens.
My opinion is that it is much better than the 50-250IS.
Good Buy.
