+1

This thread is well intentioned and kudos to the OP...but FWIW.

Seems folks have learned to judge their lenses on just one merit....

Whether the pic is sharp or not.

:D

Sharpness (tack sharp) in the final output is not always desired but it's nice to know a certain lens can produce sharp images when needed

Those thorns look slightly un-called for.

Same here. Someone said Leica does better composition...so I think I might drop 20k on a Leica system. Will surely improve my composition?

In regard to the 'pillow soft' Canon 28mm 1.8 with meh bokeh...

S'good enough for me.

I know the thread is in jest, and hard to tell when people are joking, but in all seriousness, that is soft. Either you missed focus, took a 100% crop of an OOF area, or the lens really is soft.. :( Sorry to have to point it out. :(

I would too. When they start looking that good you know the challenge is all over and done and you would start to enjoy taking photos. Cant have that, need frustration and spending loads of money to try to compensate for my poor skills.

Yes, it is soft as a $500 lens, wide open at 1.8 with a quick shot of the dog on the floor with the sun streaming in. Would the Canon 28mm 1.8 be anything other than a bit soft wide open, esp. in those conditions?

The point is that it's not HoRRiBle as many overzealous pixel peepers would have you think. It's not "pillow soft", at least to me. You're not pointing anything out that wasn't known ;) . Now, if I took it at 2.8 with proper exposure, RAW, adjusted it in DPP, tweaked some more in Photoshop and then sharpened it, it would probably be a bit better, I admit
