The 300 HS and 100 HS have both been in stock at many major online retailers for a week or two. But Adorama and B&H have still not gotten the 500 HS model in yet. Does anyone have information on when this camera might be expected? Really hoping to get one for my fiancé soon.

The elph 500 is starting to pop up, finally.
It's in stock in silver (the brown version is nowhere to be found, yet) at B&H, Adorama, Amazon...
I hope it delivers the goods as expected - looks like a major player in the world of compact cameras.

I was looking at getting a P&S for the times I dont want the 40D hanging of my neck.
I was just checking out the spec on the ELPH 500 and this has to be the ultimate camera for "EVERYONE" , just check out this "Quote"from the spec sheet,

Best Image Selection,
"The camera takes five photos in succession, and then chooses the best one out of the bunch".

Does this mean I'll never take a bad shot again,I think I'll check out the G12 I dont think that chooses photos for me ;).

What makes it better than the SD4000 other than a wider lens and full HD? I would think IQ is similar

It also has a wider 24mm lens and 24 fps video.
Another difference is that the ELPH 500 has a full touch screen.
Of course, whether that's a plus over the buttons of the SD4000 is a personal preference.

I do like the 24mm lens spec of the 500 HS but while you're waiting for availability.... you can buy the SD4000 now which isn't that much different .... for a lower cost

Thanks for the heads-up.

I almost cancelled my order at Amazon and bought it at B&H.. but the estimated delivery date via Free UPS Ground was April 22.. I'm hoping Amazon will get it before next Wednesday.. in which case, I'll get on or before April 22 anyway (with my Amazon Prime 2-day shipping).

Its for the wife.. she's been complaining about her SD870IS acting funny (a drop will do that to a camera).. so its been a long wait.. good to know the Brown one is showing up in stock now

In regards to the SD4000 vs the 500 HS, I think the 500 HS has one additional slow-motion video mode? eh, I dont remember too clearly now.. but there were a few things the 500 HS had over the 4000 where I thought the 500 HS was worth getting.. maybe the Brown color had something to do with it too..

I'm looking forward to seeing some reviews (everyday users) on this camera.

Sounds and looks impressive for a P&S.
