No UX date code?

I bought a lens this morning from a reputable and well known store in town. I was having a close look at it out of the box and noticed it has absolutely no UX date code whatsoever, anywhere on it, and certainly not in its regular location on the rear mount.

Does this mean anything, and should it be something to worry about?

Thanks!

It's a 70-200 2.8 IS USM II.

Its normal for that lens. Next year's batch will probably have a date code.

They ceased the Date Code stamping during the 3rd quarter of 2010 on the 70-200 f2.8 MKII lens and quite a few other L lenses.

Got mine several months back new and it dont have a Date Code either.

My 70-200 2.8 IS II does not have a date code either...if this lens came with a CD for a manual, that's normal for it not to have a date code.

Cool. Good to know. Any particular reason they stopped the UX codes halfway through a run?

I believe they are going to eliminate them all together.

Not sure why, but UY codes were the last to appear on that lens.

I guess they are still coding the 16-35mm II. the one I just recently purchased has a UZ code (2011?).
