I saw a thread with this theme on another forum I post on, and considering photography can be as expensive as you want it to be, I figured it would fit in nicely here. So...tax day is coming up soon. Got a refund coming to you? Gonna spend a little (or all of it ) on gear? Tell us where your money's going and why.

I should be getting a check in a couple weeks, but I jumped the gun and bought a 430EX II, some Eneloop rechargeable batteries w/ charger, and diffuser. I've never used a flash before except for the built-in, and I think it will open up a world of possibilities for me. Unfortunately, the rest of the refund money will go towards more "responsible" things

What exactly is a tax refund?

Next thing you need to do is adjust your withholdings so Uncle Sam isn't keeping YOUR money for free all year. In a perfect world you receive $0 and owe $0 on tax day.

I'm sending mine back to the Government.
They seem to need it a lot.
Sure would hate to see some poor G-Man go without a job.

By plan, no refund for me. Haven't had a refund in decades.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

35L or the Fuji X100, or upgrade my 5D...first two options are more likely though.

It's what you get when you increase your withholdings because you know you are a terrible saver and this is like forced savings. At least that's what I tell myself.

Big refund this year (worked two jobs so overpaid SS tax). It pretty much paid for my gear list (I'm a total noob to photography/POTN) and a trip to Italy with my wife in a couple weeks. I hope to put the Tokina 11-16 to good use.

I was going to get the 1D Mk3 or the 1Ds Mk2, but my March was much, much better than expected and I just bought the 1Ds Mk2. Perfect timing too because I got one in excellent condition with only 30k actuations for $1800. Now that I have the camera I want, my return will be used for something else....I just have no idea what. Since I already got the camera, I'm sure the wife will have 'other' plans. LOL

Mine is going to be put towards a new camper.
Added another kid to the family and the current camper is going to be too tight now. It was snug with 2, overly comfy with 3, and no good at 4 people.

This sounds like a job for the FairTax!! http://www.fairtax.org/site/PageServer (external link)

Not only do I not let them withhold the full percentage, I claim 3 dependents so that I owe money, and then I wait until the very end to pay. Screw 'em, they're just going to waste it anyway.

Tax refund... wait, the government is doing me the "favor" of holding my money interest free? That's soooo nice of them. Heh. :p

I just checked... no refund for me. :(
