I'd like to see just how often people upgrade their gear so I'm starting a poll. Sound off!

Upgrade every generation.
Upgrade every other generation.
Upgrade every third generation.
I'm happy with my gear.

Not sure how the polling feature works on this forum.

You have to select the option to add a poll. Maybe mods can add a poll to this one.

To answer your question, I've only been in the DSLR world since early 2009. I started with a Rebel XS and recently (November 2010) upgraded to 7D. Not sure if and when I will upgrade next. I want to work on my lenses first! :) So, my answer to your poll would have been "I'm happy with my gear".

I just got my 60D a month ago, and before that I just had point and shoots. So I think I'll stick with my camera for a good long time. Would probably skip a generation if it meant getting one of the 70-200 L variants. Would also depend on what I could get for the body on sale or trade.

I got my first digital P&S in 2006. Upgraded to a DSLR (XS) in 2008 and upgraded my T2i in 2010 (and that's only because I got it for free.) The T2i should serve me well for a long time, so happy with my camera and going to focus on a few more lenses and better flash (that should take 2-4 years.) :)

Fail-Poll!

I'm "upgrading" fairly constantly, in the sense that I'm swapping lenses in and out frequently. Most of the time though, the replacements are not true upgrades--usually they're just similar models I've wanted to compare against. In a few cases, I've actually downgraded.

I seem to upgrade every 3 years...started with a 300D in mid 04, then the 40D in fall '07 and then last ,fall the 5D2.

Not sure if I will upgrade for a long while now...love the 5D2 with the 40D as my backup. But then again, I said the same about the 40D...:D

Whenever I feel like I outgrow my setup. There's no actual time-line for upgrades, really.

You REALLY got into the digital P&S game late--I picked up my nikon coolpix 950 in 2002, and I was behind. What were you using prior to 2006? Film P&S's or SLRs?

I upgrade when the new body has changes enough for my kind of shooting.
Up to now, I only upgraded from a 40D to the 7D due to the movie recording and new AF system.
My next upgrade will be for the 5D Mark Something that has the 7D (or better) AF. I want a FF sensor :D

Photography is about GEAR and not talent or practice. Practice won't make you a better photographer. Expensive equipment will. =D
