Truly, WELL DONE!
That's a beautiful photo.
How well does it stand up to enlargement/printing?

I've not tried to shoot any since I got my 7D - the 30D simply had no chance! - but seeing your shot, maybe I should hunt them down again.

Regards,
Simon

Thanks Simon. There was a good bit of cropping so any prints would be small ones.

Thanks Lillian. I am pleasantly surprised at how many of us have this as a goal this year. Good luck to you and everyone.

Nice capture. It reminds me of a bullet caught in an HS cam.

Thanks. At least a bullet travels in a straight line but these guys swerve all over. All part of the fun.

You're welcome.
Have you seen the captures done with flash and a tethered camera linked to motion detectors? I've got to go to work soon, so can't look it up, but the posts are in here somewhere...astounding, of course, and a bit further than I'm willing to go for a BIF shot.
So, without all the technology, I think you've done 95%+ as well!

Exactly!
And that's what makes a good BIF worthy of respect!
Keep at it mate!!!!

Don - great shot - what AF setting did you use on your 7D ?

Most of my attempts have background clutter (trees/houses) in the frame so I shoot with single point servo and hope to get lucky. These two very heavy crops were the only ones that came out at all - I guess the water background helped a bit.

Thanks,

Chris

What a shot! Great! I know how difficult this is! The 7D is capable to capture it, but as you say....the problem is to keep the bird in the viewfinder. Excellent! :)
