I try to keep the camera at the same perspective as the child. Often times I'll put the baby in the basket/blanket up on a folding card table to make it easier to get that perspective (mom and/or dad positioned to pose/catch). I can't comment on color or exposure as this monitor I am on is terrible anyway so it's hard to say. But I think you're off to a good start.
