Extremely jealous of the Leica right now. I hope to own one some day.

Thanks Anders. RF cameras aren't for everyone but, I love how compact and lightweight it is over my DSLR. :)

Here's some lens porn. Canon 1Ds MK III and 70-200 MK II. The catch is that the image was shot with the Leica M9 and 90 Summarit wide open. If you do check the EXIF, it is incorrect. There's a setting in the M9 menu where you can set up the lens to identify it automatically or manually. In this case, it was set to manual and forgot to change it back to auto. :) Anyways, enjoy!

Click image for larger to see better detail if you wish. :)

Noooooo! Damn you guys lol. I'm so jealous of both Mike and Julian. I love my Canon gear, don't get me wrong, but after shooting with Leicas while in school I just totally fell in love with them. I couldn't justify the cost as I wouldn't be using them for "work" so to speak.

Someday....

Dang Michael! I'm looking for the Zeiss 50 1.5 Sonnar! Nice collection of Zeiss glass btw. Do you like the Zeiss 25 ZM? I was looking at that too! :)

Totally understandable... I've grown tired of waiting for Canon's body updates, personally - and ended up down the Leica path myself. These days, I just don't seem to reach for the Canon gear anymore. Get yourself an M8 - they're pretty affordable these days.

Heh. Sorry! :p

The 1,5/50 Sonnar ZM is a peach, but be warned; it's not for everyone. You might come across reports of "focus shift" and such. It does, but it can be tuned by Zeiss for either f/1.5 or f/2.8 use. It gets a bad rep, but it's totally unjustified. It is, after all, based on a "classic" lens formula - and for a reason. Wide open, the "character" of it is unlike anything else. Sort of reminds me of the 50L. ;)

The 2,8/25 Biogon ZM... Where do I start? It's probably my favorite lens of their entire lineup (even M lenses in general) - Zeiss would even agree, as they're quite proud of it themselves. Justifiably so - it's stupid sharp from wide open across the entire frame, has practically no distortion to speak of and has all the other usual "Zeissisms." It set a new record for resolution a year or two ago. One perk that's nice is that it's about as wide as you can go without requiring an external VF (provided you don't wear glasses) as I can't stand them, personally. Arguably, I built my system around this lens!

So, do you think I can get away with using the 50 f2 ZM?

Absolutely, provided you don't need the extra speed... Although I tend to think of the 1,5/50 Sonnar more as an f/2.8 lens - that just happens to go faster (for dark scenes or added character). Doesn't stop me from shooting it at f/1.5 most of the time though. ;)

The 2/50 Planar ZM is a real bombshell of a lens as well. Sharp as could be from wide open. Compares very well (if not beating) the 2/50 Summicron.

If you really need a fast lens, I'd suggest the CV 1,2/35 Nokton. It's inexpensive, rather good - and lovely wide open. If you must have a 50mm lens, the 1,1/50 Nokton is also good, but doesn't quite compare to the 35mm. That having been said, here's a shot from last week at f/1.8 with an 8x ND @ ISO160 on the M9:
