Always looking out for the unusual, I came across this guy making a 360-degree panorama of part of Leicester Square in London. I found out from Wikipedia that what he's using is called a catadioptric lens. Must be a real trial getting that camera straight on the tripod...

That is a very popular birding setup actually. The lens in front of the flash focuses the flash beam and it works way farther. It's pretty cool. I wish I had one!

I didn't know it was a lens... I thought it was a snoot. Opps.

Yup, the Better Beamer can be pretty useful -- people even get some good bird in flight results.

Here's my test setup @ the zoo for shooting animals from afar... Image, courtesy of Zerimar; thanks dude!!!

Canon 1Ds2 + 400 2.8L II + RRS Perfect Portraiture Setup w/12" extender + Canon OC-E3 Cord + Canon 580EX2 + Honl 8" Snoot... I don't have a "Better Beamer" setup, so I thought I'd try it with the gear I do have... Hhehehehhehe... I was shooting at the lion exhibit @ the LA Zoo... It worked pretty well for fill light... Decent reach @ roughly 10-15 yards away from the subject... Below is a sample result of the setup above...

Some fill light hit the face, that would've otherwise been a bit dark... No complaints for the initial test results... I'll definitely do this setup again in the near future...

:)

That setup looks hardcore and that flash arm looks interesting. Never seen that before.
