First Kill Bill shot looks good. However I would like to see more dramatic light used with underexposed background. It would help to keep eyes on the model, not on the background. Second shot works better due to DOF. Thats just my taste tho =)

I like those also, I would try cloning out those cars in the first shot though. :)

HEY! awesome photos, I'm subscribed to this thread as long as I remember myself :P really inspiring work...

So I've put together a little article, for those who are just starting out with off-camera flash, and want some advice... can you please take a look and comment if I missed something? I'd really appreciate! -> off-camera flash kit (external link)

Russian girl here, single strobe on the left, through reflective umbrella. also light creeping from huge window on the right.

Nicely Done... I like the light and her pained/sorrow expression adds to the drama

your blog... good thought ... but the flow sounds like a student wrote it.... wait.. you ARE one .. LOL.. you know what I mean...

The equipment list you posted .. looks OK.. I had 2 issues with the YN RF-602. You posted a price of $17. I don't think you can get a transmitter & a receiver for that price. You should probably post the price for the combo. Secondly, you say that they break often. How do you know? Have you owned several sets that broke? or are you just getting that from the internet? I have the same set and they look & perform solid.. unless you drop them on a concrete floor (which I did).. but I don't think that even more expensive pocket wizards could have survived that ...

Just my $0.02

Very cool. Care to explain the setup? Do you have a bts shot?

sorry, I saw this very late!

It's a really simple setup:
basically any type of glass, rainX the crap out of it, use spray bottle to make water drops, and a single strobe to illuminate the drops and the skittles underneath.
I used my 70-200 with Opteka macro tubes.

BTS below

i like them! 1 and 2 best.
be careful with the eyes tell the model to look straight ahead of her face, so she doesn't get the iris sinking into the side of her face, and a bunch of eye white. i know it a hard thing to remember but will make the photos 10x better
because it looks like she has massive lazy eye but really it just an illusion base on camera angle and the eye hiding in the corner, happens to me also, i make fun with my gf about it when i shoot her. but right after i explain why she looks "retarded" and tell her it was my fault so she dont get mad :P

Taken at our lighting workshop... at our sponsor's studio ...This was with a beauty dish with an AB800 on top, and a reflector at the bottom, for a butterfly effect:
