I have a 5D classic and a 50L, trying to decide what my second lens should be. I Really wish Canon had a 35mm 1.8 like nikon does!! I normally like primes but I am not opposed to zooms. It doesn't have to be L if it has a good rep. I do not have any interest in the 24-70, and I would love a 70-200 but it's so $$$ I think I should settle for something wider and less $$. I like wide anyway!

The Nikon 35mm f1.8 is made for cropped sensor so it's suppose to mimic a 50mm lens field of view on a full frame camera like your Canon 5D.

Canon has a 30mm f2 lens. Optically very sharp. If you stop down the bokeh can be a bit ugly as it only has 5 aperture blades and produces a pentagon bokeh ball.

If you like wide why don't you have a look at the 17-40L?
I see you list 17-50 on your sig, is it on the 5Dc or D7000?

Cheers! :D

pentagon bokeh ball, that made me laugh I have no idea why. The 17-50 is on my nikon, its my first off brand lens, i've been pretty impressed. She's sharp.

I only have a 50L for my canon, it needs something else, wider!

re: $300 zoom
Is that the kit lens, or did the 5D come with an L kit lens?

Lots of good choices, Since you don't want a 24-70 the 17-40 or 24-105 would work well as zooms go. I just got the 24L and while its an excellent lens I am still debating if this lens is for me. Personally I have tried many lenses from Canon and I still mostly shoot with the 50L.
