I don't know, but I'd be interested in hearing this too. I finally managed to change my personal functions by connecting it via firewire to an XP laptop. The hard part was getting the right software when you don't have the disc!

Got the software, Bought the firewire, got home..... Fire wire wont work on win 7 64bit, XP laptop dont have Firewire port....... not happy i want to rename the Camera to mine as i bought it used, and want to set up the bracketing to 7 shots or 5 shots for HDR..... this is really geting to me

Go go go!

I don't know if the cheaper 6 pin ports would do, my laptop only has the 4 pin which worked perfectly.

Quite possibly the most idiotic thing Canon have ever done, why shouldn't we be able to change these in camera???

1DCLICKER No the usb is only used for u/l pics and the fire wire for making changes to the camera settings. And your best bet maybe is looking for a $100 old computers that still uses XP and has a fire wire connection.
https://www.pacificgeek.com/index.asp (external link) has them. Good luck

I tried yesterday on my macbook. Won't work via EOS Utility with USB.
Hooked up the 9-6 firewire cable on my 1D Classic and worked on EOS Utility and changed the owner name.

I need a 9-4 firewire cable JUST to change my name.

I have been trying to come to grips with this... and I am sure it has been addressed somewhere in the previous 600+ pages before this one... Will a Firewire to USB adapter work on a Win7 in XP mode? And is the software available someplace or is it on a standard EOS disk?

I too have been shopping for something old with Firewire just in case, found a G4 Macbook 12.1 for $139 and I'm thinking this is the road I will end up on. Like I said, it has probably been addressed, but any info is appreciated.

an old laptop with firewire will dual purpose for a basic media center or pc to connect to a tv for livingroom browsing on the big screen

My well loved, and used, 1Dmk2 does not see much action these days. I used it mostly for motor sport and aviation in the past but my focus has changed to landscape and nature. Having said that it still produces great images, as far as IQ goes it is still way ahead of many more modern cameras I use/have used like the 7D and D300.

On a recent trip I had a problem with my normal backup body (1DSmk2) so out came the 1Dmk2. I always shoot with 2 bodies at a time, one with a wide and one with a long lens. I have posted a few images below from the 1Dmk2.

Dias cross, Namibian Skeleton coast. 1Dmk2 with 24-105 L IS

On yacht in Luderitz harbor, Namibia, 1Dmk2 with 17-40 L

IMAGE: http://www.landbank.co.za/~rudix/jp1p9486_std.jpg

Abandoned house on Halifax island off the Namibian Skeleton coast. 1Dmk2 with 100-400 L IS from a moving yacht.

After many years and more than 120K images I still love this camera!

Thanks for looking,
Rudi

I am in the same boat as you. What version EOS Utility were you using? And just to be clear, are you saying that you can enable the P.Fn to be controlled from the camera instead of having to always connect the camera to a computer? I do have access to a Mac and if I can clear the old P.Fn’s and enable them to be adjusted on the camera, it would be a great boon for me since I don't actually own a Mac. :D

I have had this 1D2 for a while and have not been able to get access to the camera settings via the EOS Utility and I also would like to change (or just remove altogether) the previous camera owner’s name. I don’t have an XP 32-bit machine anymore but I do have a Firewire 400 ExpressCard and the 6-4 pin cable and like you, my Win7 64 will not detect the camera.

Ok the EOS UTILITY I used was the one that came packaged with the 5D MK II, once you enable or set any P.fn via eps utility you can set and change them in camera. It's good, no idea on the tech side of making it work I just used a Mac with unknown OS (I know nothing about apple unless it's an iPhone lol) and FireWire to get into it, I got win7 64bit so I had the same drama as you, I suggest find someone with an XP MACHINE or a Mac.
