When I get enough money, I want to start a nice gun collection. Too bad the subject is too taboo around most people

hahahahaha it's all good

How much do you love your 50L? Would you recommend it to another prime shooter?

A lot. Yes. Takes some getting used to at f/1.2 but it's oh so sweet when you nail focus and get home and see the amazingness that loads onto your computer

Testing the 50L before it goes to CPS for cleaning, calibration and whatnot. I feel a little bit of focus shifting - tell me how you test yours out?

Fortunately, my 50L front focuses quite a bit at f/1.2 so I had to move the focus plane back quite a bit using the MA feature. Consequently, this actually helped out on the focus shift at smaller apertures and hides the focus shift within the DOF at any given aperture. Maybe you can ask Canon to calibrate it to front focus when you send it in. ;)

To test it, you can use any numerous charts out there. Or just shoot something at an angle like the box. Shoot from f/1.2 till the aperture when the focus shift is hidden within the DOF. You will see the DOF shifting back as you go from f/1.2 to f/2.0 to f/2.8 and so on.

You guys should take your Christmas lights down, it's almost May

Best way I test focus is just to take a lot of photos at one MFA setting, examine said photos in DPP (showing focus point helps a lot), and adjust from there if you notice a consistent mis-focus. It seems like no matter how many test charts, batteries, moire screens etc, I shoot to get a perfect focus, the actual photos I take turn out to need more calibration.

Thanks for the tips! It is definitely weird that it shifts towards the back. How odd. LOL.

Where's that photo taken?

It was taken in Richmond at the canada skytrain. I was playing with it today and i felt that it was really tight, i am a little uncomfortable with it just because i always shoot with the 24L or the 35L.

LOL. That's how our monorail is lit at night. And what's weird is that it's only isolated on that segment of the whole monorail.

Thanks for the tip! i might just send it in to Canon for a cleaning, calibration. I don't really know how to describe the focus shift. I wonder if they can fix that.
