I bit the bullet and went to the local computer recycle place and found a beat up boot only Inspiron designed for XP with a Firewire port for $79. Had a copy of XP from the last retail sale for my previous computer and the EOS disk from my 40D, found the 1DII driver at Canon loaded em all up and all is well. I would have spent at least that much trying to find a work around...

It's funny how complicated it is to do some very simple things on a PC. I never had any EOS Utility problems with this camera on my mac.

Here's a bit older shot from a while ago (going through older images to edit them down) which makes me miss this camera..

Nice cheap shot there! Of course being a PC user I can appreciate such comments!

Anyway...thought I would post one from my 1DII and my brand new Sigma 50mm 1.4......

I would gladly use FireWire 800 over USB any day! Really like that extra speed on my external drives:)

Ok the EOS UTILITY I used was the one that came packaged with the 5D MK II, once you enable or set any P.fn via eps utility you can set and change them in camera. It's good, no idea on the tech side of making it work I just used a Mac with unknown OS (I know nothing about apple unless it's an iPhone lol) and FireWire to get into it, I got win7 64bit so I had the same drama as you, I suggest find someone with an XP MACHINE or a Mac.

Thanks and thanks everyone else for the input. I know someone with a Macbook Pro, but they have a Firewire 800. I do have a cable (another one, a 9-4 pin) so hopefully that is not an issue. I think he might have the EOS Utility that came with the 7D. I'll find out next week. If I can get it to work, I will just turn on every single P.Fn to something other than the default, then hopefully I won't ever have to connect the camera to a computer again. :D

drRex Hope it works out for you. We get ask that question a lot so I tried to add a little humor :D about why they went with firewire ,Which at the time firewire look like it would become a standard for P.C. as well.;)

Ran across this review of the 1D Mark II by Pekka and thought some of you would like to check it out.
